How Dropsolid Creates Personalized Marketing Campaigns with n8n
Dropsolid uses n8n to synchronize data from CRM into marketing automation solutions to create personalized email marketing campaigns.
Leen Penders is the Marketing Director of Dropsolid, a digital company in Belgium. Over the years, Dropsolid has evolved into an open digital experience platform, built on open-source solutions:
- Drupal is the digital experience platform and CMS.
- Mautic is the marketing automation solution.
- Apache Unomi is the customer data platform.
Open source is at the core of Dropsolid, it's part of our DNA.
Dropsolid's customers (including governments, nonprofits, and manufacturing & service companies) also favor open source and value the ownership, flexibility, and freedom it provides. Dropsolid was looking for a workflow automation tool with the same community values and code transparency as they have – and they found n8n.
Leen shared with us why Dropsolid's team chose n8n, how they use n8n to automate their internal and customer processes, and how low-code workflows have helped drive their business.
Use Case
Dropsolid needed an automated and efficient way to integrate data from different sources, across different platforms. Initially, they had two specific use cases:
- Integrate and synchronize data from CRM into marketing automation solutions, to have accurate data for personalized email marketing campaigns.
- Bring marketing automation campaign results into Google DataStudio to create analytics dashboards.
A potential future use case is bringing all types of data into the customer data platform, to create a centralized data hub.
Challenges
When thinking about implementing their use cases, Dropsolid's team faced two main challenges: integrating data from different sources and managing integrations for the applications and services they use. Without being partially automated, these tasks would be labor-intensive to set up and maintain, prone to errors, and not scalable.
The ideal solution for the team was a low-code workflow automation platform, powerful enough to automate their processes, but also easy enough to use so that both technical and non-technical members could design and build those processes.
If you don't use such a workflow automation tool, you waste time and money building and maintaining all those integrations. It doesn't make sense.
The team had experimented with Zapier, but workflow limitations and high costs led them to look for an alternative, and ideally an open-source one.
Low-code Solution
n8n proved to be the solution Dropsolid was looking for, as it provided the necessary core nodes for workflow logic, hundreds of nodes for popular apps and services, along with the ability to build custom integrations.
The team took advantage of n8n's capabilities and automated their use cases with low-code workflows. One of them is used to create/update Google DataStudio dashboards. This workflow writes data from a Mautic report into a Google Sheet, making this data available as a data source for Google DataStudio. The dashboard is also scheduled to update automatically daily.
I really believe in a tool like n8n.
Results
n8n quickly became a popular, even indispensable tool within the Dropsolid team.
The technical people in our team are the ones who love n8n, it makes their job easier and brings more flexibility. But even less technical people can use it.
Overall, n8n workflows have helped connect different applications within the Dropsolid team and synchronize their data, solving the initial challenges. More specifically, these automations have delivered:
- Increased productivity, thanks to automation of tedious tasks and minimization of human errors.
- Enhanced collaboration between teams, as anyone can learn to build and adjust workflows.
- Cost reduction, as n8n is the most cost-effective workflow automation tool on the market today.
- Clear conscience, by adding a fair open-source tool to the list of open-source solutions the company uses.
